Carbon CAN have more than 4 bonds...

Due to its electronic configuration, it has been the common understanding that the element Carbon cannot have more than 4 bonds when Carbon is the central atom of a molecule.  A recent scientific publication has shown that it is in fact possible for Carbon to have more than 4 bonds by confirming a molecule that has 6 bonds.
